God’s Design for Women

A recent TikTok trend caught my attention: wives asking their husbands to make coffee and recording their responses. It all started when one man’s harsh reply went viral, prompting women everywhere to test their own husbands’ reactions. The trend has taken off, with videos of husbands either eagerly brewing coffee or delivering snide remarks.

I decided to join in and asked Mike for coffee. His response was priceless—he paused, clearly puzzled, and said lovingly, “Well, I don’t know how, but I’ll try.” Mike has never had coffee in his life! The video went viral, garnering over three million views and thousands of comments. While most praised Mike’s sweet response, a vocal minority criticized us, claiming I must be his “slave” because he didn’t know how to make coffee.

This incident, both amusing and concerning, speaks volumes about how modern society views traditional roles in marriage. In a culture that often rejects biblical principles in favor of independence and equality, the beauty of God’s original design for families is frequently misunderstood—or outright dismissed. But when we turn to Scripture, particularly Proverbs 31, we see a beautiful picture of strength, wisdom, and purpose. That’s why I created the A Woman of Excellence: Proverbs 31 Bible Journal Class—to help women unpack these timeless truths and reflect on how they can transform our daily lives.

Proverbs 31: A Model of Strength and Wisdom

The Proverbs 31 woman, once admired as a model of strength, dignity, and wisdom, is now seen by some as outdated or oppressive. This shift is not just a loss; it’s a tragedy. God’s design for marriage and family is not about subjugation but about balance, mutual support, and flourishing in our God-given roles.

In my A Woman of Excellence: Proverbs 31 Bible Journal Class, we explore the Hebrew meanings and cultural insights behind each verse. This class sheds light on the virtuous woman as a powerful, God-honoring example for modern life. Through journaling prompts, creative exercises, and practical applications, we reflect on how these ancient truths can guide us today. It’s not about restrictive roles—it’s about thriving in the roles God designed for us.

Cultural Misunderstandings and Biblical Truths

Many misunderstandings about biblical womanhood stem from cultural distortions and centuries of tradition replacing Scripture. To truly understand God’s intent for women, we need to go back to the Bible’s Hebraic roots. This is where Dr. John Garr’s trilogy—Feminine by Design, God and Women, and Coequal—shines. These books explore God’s vision for women and men, confronting cultural misconceptions while celebrating the beauty of their partnership.

  • Feminine by Design reveals God’s intentional creation of women, showcasing their unique strengths and their integral role in His plan.
  • God and Women takes a historical view, examining how the church moved away from its Hebraic roots and how this has impacted women’s roles in family, society, and church.
  • Coequal focuses on the collaborative partnership God intended for men and women, particularly in ministry, emphasizing equality in the body of Christ.

Dr. Garr’s works align closely with my A Hebraic Perspective on Bible Women class. In this class, we explore the lives of remarkable women in Scripture, placing them within their historical and cultural context. Through this lens, we see their strength, faith, and enduring impact on God’s plan. These stories inspire us to embrace our God-given roles and gifts today.

Exploring God’s Design for Women Through Scripture

Dr. John Garr’s trilogy—Feminine by Design, God and Women, and Coequal—delves into these issues with grace, wisdom, and biblical clarity. These three books explore God’s vision for women and men, confronting cultural distortions while celebrating the beauty of their partnership. They remind us that biblical roles are not chains but a path to freedom, joy, and deeper connection with our Creator.

As you explore Garr’s work, you’ll uncover how God’s design uplifts both women and men, allowing them to thrive in their homes, churches, and communities. This journey is not about looking backward but about reclaiming the blessings of God’s timeless truths for today’s world.

  2. God and Women – Continue with a deep dive into historical and theological perspectives.
  3. Coequal – Conclude with a focus on partnership and ministry in the body of Christ.

At the core of these three books is a profound desire to restore the truth about women’s role in God’s plan. Dr. Garr’s scholarship is not an attack on tradition but an invitation to rediscover the richness of Scripture when read through its Hebraic lens.

Each book builds on the other, offering a cohesive vision of God’s design for women as equal, valued, and empowered partners in the family, church, and society. From creation to Christ to the modern church, Garr paints a picture of gender equality rooted in Scripture, challenging readers to reject cultural distortions and embrace the transformative truth of God’s Word.

If you’ve ever wondered about the biblical role of women or felt the tension between tradition and truth, this trilogy is an essential read. It will challenge, inspire, and equip you to stand for biblical equality, reflecting the heart of God in your life and ministry.
