January Word Theme: Delight
This month’s theme is DELIGHT, and I immediately thought of Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. This verse serves as a beautiful reminder that when we take joy in God and prioritize our relationship with Him, He lovingly aligns our desires with His perfect will. True delight is found not in earthly pleasures but in the richness of God’s presence, where our hearts are shaped and transformed to reflect His goodness.

January Mixed Media Tip
When working with busy or highly detailed pages, it can be challenging to create a focal point for your Bible journaling verse. Adding a layer of gesso is the perfect solution! Gesso acts as a primer that softens the background, creating a neutral "landing place" where your verse can stand out boldly and clearly. It doesn’t cover up the beauty of your design—it enhances it by giving your text the space it needs to shine. Try it out on your next project and watch your verse take center stage!

When combined with Bible journaling, mixed media creates a vivid, meaningful representation of the Scriptures. You can use it to bring key verses to life, visually express prayer requests, or highlight a spiritual lesson in a creative way. Mixed media helps your Bible journaling pages stand out with:

Building Your Mixed Media Stash
One of the joys of working with mixed media is the variety of materials at your fingertips. To get started, it's important to build a stash of supplies that allow you to experiment. Here are some essentials:
- Papers: Scrapbook pages, vintage book pages, tissue paper, and printed
- Bible Word Art: Here are some of my freebies at the DigitalScrapbook Commons. You can download 5 freebie a day (more with comments).
- Digital Paints: Acrylics, watercolors, and distress inks. I use white gesso in every single page. It works great under the verses.
- Textures: Stencils, modeling paste, and textured brushes.
- Embellishments: Flowers, buttons, washi tape, and stickers.
